Environmental Health Officer (MP)
This title is in the unclassified service and is designated Managerial/Confidential. Appointees to Managerial/Confidential titles serve at the pleasure of the chief administrative officer and are not represented for collective negotiations.
ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH OFFICER (MP) administers service, educational and research functions in the areas of safety, sanitation, industrial hygiene, and radiation health as they relate to students and staff at a campus. Does related work as required.
- Supervises the sanitary storage, preparation, and serving of food and all food services;
- inspects on-campus housing areas for proper safety and sanitation standards and consults with the campus housing office concerning the establishment of housing standards;
- inspects all campus-controlled swimming facilities and arranges tests of pool water samples;
- provides for the prevention and control of rodents and insects on campus;
- plans and inspects waste disposal methods in institutional facilities;
- receives and investigates reports of communicable diseases in the campus community;
- supervises the water supply system to ensure conformity with sanitary code regulations;
- investigates environmental conditions and problems in laboratories, shops, barns, storerooms, and other facilities;
- consults with academic staff regarding possible or anticipated hazards associated with the introduction of new methods or materials;
- educates staff and students to basic environmental safety;
- provides information and maintains records concerning the use of radioactive material or apparatus;
- plans educational programs to instruct the campus in radiological health hazards;
- cooperates with other campus officers in establishing safety standards;
- records and analyzes accidents on campus property and administers compensation cases;
- develops educational programs encouraging a safety orientation for the campus.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree and experience in the administration of a safety or sanitation program, preferably in an educational institution.
