Director of University Physical Plan Support Services (MP)
This title is in the unclassified service and is designated Managerial/Confidential. Appointees to Managerial/Confidential titles serve at the pleasure of the chief administrative officer and are not represented for collective negotiations.
Positions in this family are concerned with policy, planning, budgeting and overall management of SUNY's capital facilities program, in close coordination with the State University Construction Fund and Dormitory Authority.
DIRECTOR OF UNIVERSITY PHYSICAL PLANT SUPPORT SERVICES, is responsible for the development of a comprehensive maintenance and rehabilitation program for the university's physical facilities.
- Effects coordination and liaison between System Administration, the campuses and the various State agencies involved in the university's facilities maintenance, rehabilitation and operation program and in its training of personnel in these areas;
- reviews and develops programs and establishes priorities for all major and minor repair and rehabilitation projects;
- represents System Administration at all semi-final inspections and accepts all completed construction projects;
- furnishes advisory services to the campuses for personnel training programs, for maintenance systems and procedures, for the use and inspection of materials and for construction systems;
- implements the maintenance management program involving the upkeep of all facilities and building equipment and the staffing and training of personnel for those purposes;
- confers and corresponds with facilities coordinators and directors of physical plant relative to repair, rehabilitation, maintenance, preventive maintenance and operations programs;
- prepares sketches and programs, and obtains architectural and engineering data as part of justification for proposed projects;
- makes physical inspections of buildings and properties;
- directs the processing of Short Form Contracts and Special Fund Estimates;
- maintains data on all major university buildings.
Preferred Qualifications:
A Bachelor's degree in architecture had significant, long-term, and major, experience in higher education facilities construction and maintenance programs, or a satisfactory equivalent combination of education and experience.
