Director of Student Activities (SL4)
This title is in the unclassified service and in the SUNY Professional Services Negotiating Unit. This title is in Appendix A of the SUNY Policies of the Board of Trustees and, as a consequence, incumbents serving in this title are not eligible for permanent appointment (tenure), but, instead receive five year renewable term appointments.
Has overall responsibilities for the coordination of all student, cultural, social and organizational activities.
- Incumbent formulates and interprets policies and regulations;
- schedules and directs special events and provides related administrative and management support;
- supervises professional, clerical, and support staff;
- manages budgets and authorizes appropriate expenditures;
- provides leadership to student and faculty in planning, organizing, and executing various co-curricular activities, and frequently serves as the business officer for these activities assisting in such areas as budget preparation and making arrangements for use of various on and off-campus facilities.
- Incumbent is frequently the administrative representative and advisor to the student government;
- formulate policies in consultation students, faculty, and staff members as it relates to the activities program;
- may have responsibility for approving uses of mandatory activities fees;
- approves recognition papers as well as other documents related to student organizations;
- enforces policies such as the SUNY Board of Trustees policies and other related federal, state, local and campus laws;
- may prepare annual calendar of campus events;
- often responsible for other major programs such as the cultural series, convocations, Greek affairs, recreation, student travel and outing clubs, student publication, etc.
Preferred Qualifications:
A Master's degree, preferably in student personnel, with progressive experience in the management and administration of student activities or student union.
