Director of Physical Plant (MP)
This title is in the unclassified service and is designated Managerial/Confidential. Appointees to Managerial/Confidential titles serve at the pleasure of the chief administrative officer and are not represented for collective negotiations.
Positions in this family are concerned with planning and development, design and construction, equipping, rehabilitation, repair, maintenance and operation of University campus physical facilities.
DIRECTOR OF PHYSICAL PLANT directs the total rehabilitation, maintenance, repair, and operations program of the physical plant. Does related work as required.
- Has general administrative supervision over a large physical plant staff and direct supervisory responsibility over the heads of various sub-units within the physical plant organization, such as the power plant, building trades, custodial, automotive services and roads and grounds units;
- in a major campus managerial role, advises the President or appropriate Vice President and staff in the physical plant area and has responsibility for the entire physical plant budget and purchase programs, for liaison with tile campus facilities planning office, for consultation with major cam- pus academic and administrative officers to assure that physical facilities and deployment of physical plant personnel are supportive of the educational and other campus programs;
- works with off-campus governmental agencies whenever the latter provide services to the campus;
- serves on a number of major campus committees;
- keeps aware of developments in campus physical plant management.
Preferred Qualifications:
A Bachelor's degree in engineering or architecture and significant and major experience in the management and supervision of a campus physical plant program.
