Director of Financial Aid (SL5)
This title is in the unclassified service and in the SUNY Professional Services Negotiating Unit This title is in Appendix A of the SUNY Policies of the Board of Trustees and, as a consequence, incumbents serving in this title are not eligible for permanent appointment (tenure), but, instead receive five year renewable term appointments..
As a family, the financial aid titles administer the student financial aid program on a campus. Incumbents interpret and advise students on federal and State University financial aid programs, assisting students and parents in determining need and eligibility for various student aid funds.
- Directs the student financial aid programs on campus.
- Is responsible for the interpretation of regulations on complex federal and state university financial aid programs;
- collects personal and financial data from students and parents to determine need and eligibility for various institutional, state and federal student aid funds;
- is responsible for the fiscal management of the various student aid programs to insure fulfillment of the intent and purpose of each of the different programs;
- maintains liaison with parents, secondary schools, scholarship foundations, other institutions, special programs, including the educational opportunity program, and state and federal agencies;
- advises students on financial matters generally;
- certifies the program of part-time student employment, including the federally sponsored Work-Study Program;
- serves as a member of committees concerned with all of the above.
- Monitors the academic progress of students receiving aid.
Preferred Qualifications:
A Master's degree. Significant experience in financial aid and managerial and supervisory experience.
