Director of Field Studies (SL5)

This title is in the unclassified service and in the SUNY Professional Services Negotiating Unit. This title is in Appendix A of the SUNY Policies of the Board of Trustees and, as a consequence, incumbents serving in this title are not eligible for permanent appointment (tenure), but, instead receive five year renewable term appointments.

Director of Field Studies, plans and directs an academic work-study program with opportunities for students to spend a portion of their academic careers at field projects related closely to their campus classroom and laboratory programs. Does related work as required.

  • Works closely with faculty involved in the development of curriculum to insure the development of a field program which is integral to the curriculum;
  • designs and arranges for a wide variety of field studies programs related to all phases of the curriculum of a college, including the design of new programs as new curricula are added;
  • researches and makes recommendations on questions concerning the assignment of academic credit, the amount, type and method of supervision necessary for students in the field, and development of evaluation techniques;
  • arranges, assigns, and supervises acceptable field projects for students as recommended by the faculty.

Preferred Qualifications:

A Doctorate and several years of experience in teaching, including experience in the development of work-study programs.
