Director of Continuing Education (MP)

This title is in the unclassified service and is designated Managerial/Confidential.Appointees to Managerial/Confidential titles serve at the pleasure of the chief administrative officer and are not represented for collective negotiations.

Positions in this family are involved in the administration of a continuing education program at a campus, which may include credit and non-credit evening and other courses, special institutes and workshops, long and short-term courses for professional, business, and labor organizations, alumni and cultural offerings, and general studies for the culturally disadvantaged. A continuing education program reflects a concern with the continuing educational development of the individual, offering counseling to identify experiences and interests by relating them to the academic credit and non-credit offerings of the campus. Such a program may be designed in conjunction with business, industry, and units of state and local government in developing career service programs to meet the needs of employees in these areas.

DIRECTOR OF CONTINUING EDUCATION, plans and directs the continuing education program of a campus by developing credit and non-credit offerings consistent with student demand, campus resources, and community needs;

  • does related work as required.
  • Develops and communicates campus policy on continuing education in conjunction with the academic staff;
  • prepares budget plans and requests for continuing education programs;
  • arranges for the selection or assignment of instructors, for necessary facilities for the registration and advisement of evening students, and for coordination with library, business, student personnel, and other campus officers and programs, may direct degree curriculums, summer sessions, conferences, institutes, special workshops, and other programs, as required;
  • evaluates programs and studies changes and needs of continuing education;
  • works with the local community agencies to develop programs which are needed in continuing education.

Preferred Qualifications:

A Master's degree and significant academic or administrative experience preferably in continuing education.
