Director of Career Planning (SL5)
This title is in the unclassified service and in the SUNY Professional Services Negotiating Unit. This title is in Appendix A of the SUNY Policies of the Board of Trustees and, as a consequence, incumbents serving in this title are not eligible for permanent appointment (tenure), but, instead receive five year renewable term appointments.
As a family, positions in the Career Planning and Development series have responsibility for assisting and counseling students in relation to a post-graduation placement program.
Directs a program of student career counseling and placement on a campus.
- Works with deans, directors, chairs, major faculty members, public agencies and private employers in developing and maintaining an information bank on career and position requirements and opportunities for college trained persons;
- assists students in career planning and selection, preferably beginning early in their college career;
- advises students in setting up and maintaining a placement folder for the use of potential employers;
- aids potential employers in evaluation of candidates;
- arranges for on-campus interviews and career presentations;
- conducts follow up to assess the placement programs;
- confers with administrators, faculty, and employers concerning placement accomplishments, problems and goals including identification of curriculum and extension needs to serve the public; may assist alumni who desire to upgrade their positions.
Preferred Qualifications:
A Master's degree in Student Personnel or Educational Administration with counseling experience in a college placement service.
