Director of Administrative Services (SL6)
This title is in the unclassified service and in the SUNY Professional Services Negotiating Unit. This title is in Appendix A of the SUNY Policies of the Board of Trustees and, as a consequence, incumbents serving in this title are not eligible for permanent appointment (tenure), but, instead receive five year renewable term appointments.
DIRECTOR OF ADMINISTRATIVE SERVICES, in addition to certain responsibilities of his own office, supervises a staff of professional administrative analysts in the functions usually assigned to an administrative management office.
- Working under broad administrative direction from the Vice Chancellor for Finance and Business, exercises advisory authority over the development and installation of programs, policies and procedures on a University-wide basis;
- carries important liaison responsibility among a number of administrative staff of the various campuses of the university, with other State agencies, private corporations, citizens and organizations;
- furnishes technical advice in many administrative areas;
- affects necessary clearance of policy and procedural matters;
- suggests policies, relative to various administrative programs and interprets policies to the campuses in many areas such as tuition rates, fees, fines, charges, rentals, refunds, housing rentals, and so forth and assists in the preparation of University-wide rules and regulations affecting the administration of the campuses;
- directs the State University Employee Suggestion Program and the development and maintenance of the University Manual of Business and Administrative Policies and Procedures;
- represents State University in contacts with outside agencies.
Preferred Qualifications:
A Bachelor's degree in economics, accounting or a related field and several years of high-level administrative and managerial experience, preferably in a university setting.
