College Physician (SL6)
This title is in the unclassified service and in the SUNY Professional Services Negotiating Unit.
Positions in this family are concerned with the provision of health and safety services at a campus of the University.
COLLEGE PHYSICIAN, in a small Student Health Center, performs the duties of a Director of Student Health Services, or in a medium size Student Health Center, performs the duties of an Assistant Director.
Director of Student Health Services, under the administrative supervision of the chief student affairs officer, directs the operation of the student health service.
- Determines needs and recommends policies, operating procedures, facilities and staffing within the campus student health center;
- assists in the recruitment and selection of medical personnel;
- directs the work of physicians, nurses and other support staff within the campus infirmary;
- supervises the health service's counseling function in the areas of physical and mental health, including drug counseling services;
- provides for emergency and, as appropriate within existing policy, on-going medical treatment of students;
- provides emergency treatment for college personnel;
- maintains liaison with local medical and health organizations;
- ensures the proper collection, evaluation, utilization and maintenance of all medical records on students currently enrolled;
- through member ship on various campus committees and by contact with major campus administrators serves as an advisor on student health and safety education as regards all aspects of the campus environment.
Preferred Qualifications:
Graduation from an approved medical school, completion of an internship and license to practice medicine in New York State, and at least five years of practice, preferably as a specialist in internal medicine. Experience or courses in Adolescent Medicine and an ability to work in an inter-disciplinary campus atmosphere are desirable.
