The colleges and universities of the State University of New York have museums, galleries, and art departments that present a wide range of exhibitions featuring visual art and objects of material culture. These exhibitions are accompanied by educational programs -- including gallery talks, lectures, panel discussions, films, and participatory projects -- that are presented for the benefit of students, faculty, and the general public.
Many of the campuses also maintain unique permanent collections for exhibition and study. Among the objects in the campus collections are ancient art from around the world, early American, modern, and contemporary paintings, works on paper including 19th and 20th century photography and prints, artist-designed jewelry, Arts & Crafts furniture, fashion drawings and garments that date to the 18th century, modern Japanese and Italian post-war art, and much, much more.
