TeachNY Steering Committee
SUNY’s Provost has empaneled a TeachNY Steering Committee to build on the work of the TeachNY Advisory Council and more broadly engage the SUNY community in our efforts to transform policy and practice around teacher preparation. The work of the Steering Committee will be further informed by a series of regional P-20 gatherings already underway.
The members are a distinguished panel of SUNY presidents, chief academic officers, deans, faculty, and professional staff from across Education and Arts and Sciences, faculty and student governance leaders as well as representation from SUNY’s P-12 teacher and leader partners.
The Committee’s charge is to:
- Examine SUNY’s existing educator preparation policy (A New Vision for Teacher Education);
- Consider the TeachNY Advisory Council’s Report of Findings and Recommendations (enclosed), as well as other resources;
- Consider the local, regional, and state needs for educator preparation and development;
- Develop recommendations regarding revisions to existing policy and proposed language for a renewed, enabling policy framework and action agenda; and
- Offer recommendations regarding how to sustain and assess efforts post-promulgation of new policy.
