TeachNY Statewide Roundtable
Achieving sustained improvement in the preparation of teachers and leaders and renewal across the education system will require unprecedented partnership between P-12 and higher education leadership and practitioners, along with support from the governor and legislature, and other stakeholders with a role in the educator preparation pipeline.
That is why SUNY Chancellor Nancy L. Zimpher and State Education Department Commissioner MaryEllen Elia have convened the TeachNY Statewide Roundtable, which is comprised of representatives from key stakeholder groups who can help chart a course forward for educator preparation policy statewide.
The Roundtable has committed to five meetings through June 2017 and has the following charge:
- Review the recommendations of the TeachNY Advisory Council and build consensus on the potential for action;
- Identify promising recommendations that require partnership across agencies and determine strategies for implementation;
- Solicit feedback from their organizations’ memberships to inform policy development and advancement;
- Provide statewide perspective and data to support policy improvement; and
- Collaboratively address pressing education workforce development issues.
