What is the SUNY Climate Corps?

To build a more sustainable world, we need to empower the next generation of climate innovators.

The SUNY Climate Corps Internship program connects more than 40 SUNY students a year with paid internships at partner agencies to get the hands-on experience, knowledge, and skills necessary to excel in the climate field across the many disciplines of planning, technology, renewable energy, sustainable infrastructure, circular economy, and other sub-disciplines.

Internships have a positive effect on student success and completion, but too many students are left out due to lack of paid internship opportunities. Thanks to generous New York State funding for intern salaries, we can help train the next generation of climate innovators and provide our students with a launchpad for their sustainability careers.

SUNY Climate Corps Partner Agencies

The SUNY Climate Corps Internship program also seeks to strengthen and maintain New York’s strong climate policies and programs by creating a talent pipeline for our partner agencies, offering them a unique opportunity to engage with high-potential students who may become their future employees and leaders, and helping contribute to the state’s climate action goals.

Each hosting agency has committed to providing a meaningful and structured summer or full-year internship experience, including roles that give students genuine insight into daily tasks, challenges, and triumphs as well as long-term strategy development and implementation, and with adequate supervision and periodic feedback.

The internship program is allowing students to work closely with professionals at one of the initial partnering agencies:

  • Department of Environmental Conservation
  • Department of Public Service
  • New York Energy Research and Development Authority
  • Office of General Services
  • Office of Parks, Recreation, and Historic Development
  • SUNY
