Each facility contains information on the name of the facility, location, waste types accepted, owner, and contact information. The data was originally sourced from Data.ny.gov which used DEC composting permit information to create the map.
Commercial or industrial composting is large-scale composting which is designed to handle a very high volume of organic waste, as opposed to private or home composting, which handles organic waste from one household or facility.
Land Application is the management of organic wastes where the material is applied directly (or injected) to agricultural fields, reducing the need for commercial fertilizers and improving soil quality.
