Statement from SUNY Board of Trustees and Interim Chancellor Stanley on Micron and the Largest Long-Term Investment in New York State Manufacturing

"Micron’s $100 billion investment in New York manufacturing is yet more proof that our state is integral in helping to reestablish U.S. global leadership in the semiconductor industry. We have the financial backing of the historic CHIPS and Science Act and New York State's Green Chips Legislation, strong partnerships with businesses and education, state-of-the art infrastructure, and now, the single largest long-term company investment in the nation. 

This project will be transformational for all of New York, but especially for the Central New York region. This investment sets in place a plan to generate thousands of new jobs, fuels research and manufacturing innovation, and spurs long-term economic growth. The State University of New York, including our own Onondaga Community College in Syracuse, stand ready to continue to educate and train the highly-talented workforce that drives the semiconductor microelectronic industry.

We cannot thank enough Senate Majority Leader Charles Schumer and the New York State congressional delegation led by Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, Congressman Hakeem Jeffries, Congressman Paul Tonko, and Congressman Joe Morelle.
