Statement by Chairman McCall and Chancellor Zimpher on Alexander N. Cartwright’s Appointment as Missouri Chancellor

May 24, 2017

"Alex Cartwright is a brilliant academic leader and researcher who has helped elevate The State University of New York as a national model of public higher education.

"While SUNY and New York State are certain to miss his presence, we know it will long thrive in the many transformative and pioneering initiatives he implemented at SUNY since taking over as provost in 2014. Whether it was carrying out SUNY’s sweeping diversity, equity and inclusion policy, developing a comprehensive completion model, enhancing strategic enrollment management, or re-imagining SUNY’s research enterprise, Alex has been an outstanding leader and advocate.

"On behalf of the entire SUNY family, we congratulate Alex on his appointment as chancellor of the University of Missouri-Columbia, thank him for his incredible contributions to SUNY, and wish him all the best."

Note to Media: Cartwright will be introduced to the University of Missouri community at 2 p.m. EST today. Watch live here.
