Building on the existing vast research enterprise at SUNY and coupled with SUNY's scope and scale across our 64 campuses, SUNY has been tasked to double its research volume. As a critical component of our strategy, SUNY System Administration has established three specialized task forces under the leadership of Senior Vice Chancellor of Research, Shadi Sandvik. These task forces, comprised of SUNY leaders and faculty experts from across SUNY campuses with insights from national industry experts, have developed focused strategies in:
Artificial Intelligence
Biotechnology/ Biomanufacturing/ Bioengineering
Microelectronics Packaging
These strategies outline what SUNY must do now to prepare for opportunities and challenges in the near- and long-term future to enable research, education, and workforce development on SUNY campuses and to advance the knowledge and innovations to affirm New York State as a national leader.
STRIVE launched in the Summer of 2023.
Identified resources and opportunities available and culminated in an Executive Summary (August 2023–November 2023).
Began with Task Force Working Groups dedicated to leveraging Phase I discoveries. These groups developed actionable strategies to outline and implement SUNY's goals to expand its research portfolio and reinforce its leadership in these areas (January 2024-August 2024).
Our vision for the future is that…
SUNY is recognized for having advanced the knowledge, innovations, and workforce required to affirm New York State as the national leader in areas of advanced science and technology that are of central importance to the US economy.
