According to a recent New York State Department of Labor (NYSDOL) Job Seeker Survey, 10% of employees that classify themselves as working in manufacturing are seeking work.
In the highly specialized world of advanced manufacturing and with continuous development in manufacturing technology, the value of a well-trained and skilled workforce cannot be overstated.
Statewide, positions with the largest employment gaps (as per NYSDOL's recent Business Workforce Survey) in manufacturing include:
CNC Machinist, Machinist, Machine Operator, Engineer, Project Manager and Quality Control.
Establishing a Registered Apprenticeship Program tailored to your company's needs is not just a strategic move; it's an essential investment in your future success. Here's why:
But that's not all – when you partner with SUNY, you can access additional support to make your apprenticeship program even more effective.
23% of businesses surveyed in NYSDOL's recent Business Workforce Survey desired being able to offer education/tuition reimbursement.
Additionally, the State of New York offers incentives for advanced manufacturing companies participating in Registered Apprenticeship programs:
Empire State Apprenticeship Tax Credit (ESATC):
This program provides tax incentives to certified New York State Registered Apprenticeship sponsors for hiring newly qualified Registered Apprentices, helping offset the costs associated with apprenticeship employment.
Apprenticeship Expansion Grant (AEG) (PAUSED):
AEG provides funding to cover various costs associated with training apprentices, including Related Instruction, On-the-Job Training (OJT), books, and tools. This grant is a valuable resource for further enhancing your apprenticeship program.
Examples of apprenticeable occupations in advanced manufacturing include:
Machinist (CNC), Maintenance Mechanic (Automatic Equipment), Mold Maker - Die Casting & Plastic Molding, Tool & Die Maker, Quality Assurance Auditor, Plant Maintenance - Electrician/Mechanic, Industrial Manufacturing Technician, Toolmaker and Electro-Mechanical Technician.
