Statement from Chancellor Malatras on SUNY Maritime College’s In-Person Commencement Ceremony

July 9, 2021

"As SUNY's commencement season comes to a close, I am honored to be with our graduates on this special day at SUNY Maritime College. Reflecting on the past several months, I've had the privilege of attending 18 ceremonies, where I've seen many students cross the commencement stage, ready to tackle their next endeavor with great excitement and enthusiasm for what the future holds.

That is evident here today at SUNY Maritime—the country's first of its kind and largest institution for nautical instruction—as we join together in a celebration of our graduates, under the leadership of President Michael Alfultis and the entire Maritime team. SUNY has it all.

I commend our students for what they have accomplished, and congratulate this class on receiving the highest combined pass rate of any other previous class on the United States Coast Guard exam. Our SUNY Maritime graduates should feel confident that they are more than ready to start a career in the maritime world or elsewhere, and we thank them for serving our country in this critical industry. Congratulations, class of 2021!"
