Statement from Chancellor King and SUNY Board of Trustees on Day of NYC Pride March

June 25, 2023

"Over the past month, the State University of New York and its 64 campuses have celebrated June as Pride Month to amplify the voices of the SUNY family across the state and the nation. Today, we are grateful to join Governor Kathy Hochul and the hundreds who represent SUNY at the New York City Pride March. At SUNY, everyone has a place on our campuses, and we remain committed to ensuring equitable access to higher education for all, as well as a welcoming and supportive environment. Our diversity opens the doors for new perspectives and, at times, difficult conversations that only enhance our mission and our commitment to educating the next generation. We are stronger as a diverse and inclusive community and proud to honor this month and this day, and the students, faculty, and staff who are members of the LGBTQ+ community."

SUNY oversees nearly a quarter of academic research in New York. Research expenditures system-wide are nearly $1.1 billion in fiscal year 2023, including significant contributions from students and faculty. There are more than three million SUNY alumni worldwide, and one in three New Yorkers with a college degree is a SUNY alum. To learn more about how SUNY creates opportunities, visit
