SUNY Charter Schools Institute logo Meeting Summary July 8, 2010 Meeting of the SUNY Trustees� Charter Schools Committee The Charter Schools Committee met on the above-noted date and took the actions detailed below: A. CONSIDERATION OF MINUTES The Committee approved the minutes from their June 15, 2010 meeting without amendment. B. PROPOSED COMMITTEE RESOLUTIONS Pursuant to the delegation of certain authority to the Charter Schools Committee (Resolution No. 2008-81), the Committee took the actions detailed below on behalf of the Board of Trustees. Please note that no further action by the Board of Trustees is required on these items. - Approved a Revision of the Charter of the Achievement First Brownsville Charter School (Brooklyn) The school requested and the Committee unanimously approved a revision to the school�s charter as follows: 1) a delay in implementation of the school�s middle school program until after the end of the current charter term; and 2) a decrease in enrollment and grades served in each year of the remainder of the current charter term, to reflect the following: School Year No. of Students Grades Served 2010-11 342 K-3 2011-12 416 K-4 2012-13 501 K-5 A proposed revision will be drafted, signed, and forwarded to the Board of Regents for approval. - Approved a Revision of the Charter of Leadership Preparatory Charter School 3 (Brooklyn) The school requested and the Committee unanimously approved a revision to the school�s charter to increase its enrollment to the following: School Year No. of Students Grades Served 2010-11 145 K-1 2011-12 232 K-2 2012-13 313 K-3 A proposed revision will be drafted, signed, and forwarded to the Board of Regents for approval. - Approved a Revision of the Charter of Harlem Success Academy Charter School 3 (Manhattan) The school requested a revision to the school�s charter to increase enrollment to the following: School Year No. of Students Grades Served 2010-11 468 K-3 2011-12 531 K-4 The Committee unanimously approved a revised resolution to make the Committee�s approval contingent upon a visit by the SUNY Charter Schools Institute to the facility and a determination by the Institute that negative impacts on the other schools in the building would be minimal. C. EXECUTIVE SESSION - The committee unanimously voted to proceed in executive session to discuss proposed, pending or current litigation against the SUNY Trustees related to (1) the non-renewal of the New Covenant Charter School and (2) the Request for Proposals to establish New York State charter schools in response to recent legislation.
