Thomas F. Egan was appointed Vice Chairman of the State University of New York Board of Trustees on June 27, 1995. He served as Chairman of the Board from February 8, 1996, to October 23, 2007 during which time the University’s annual budget increased from $4.2 billion to over $10 billion, student enrollment grew by 60,000 students from 366,000 to 427,000 and the Board of Trustees appointed 36 new College Presidents.  In addition, annual sponsored research grants increased in this period from $455 million to nearly $1 billion and the Board authorized the creation of 50 charter schools.

A lawyer and banker, he has spent over 30 years in the securities industry, with extensive experience in capital market finance. Mr. Egan is a managing director at Citigroup Global Markets in New York City. Previously, Mr. Egan was a principal in Langdon P. Cook & Company, Inc., for twelve years and a staff attorney with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission for three years.

Mr. Egan is the past chairman of the Foundation for the New York United Hospital Medical Center and is a former vice chairman of the Buick Classic at Westchester Country Club, a PGA Tour charity golf tournament benefiting local hospitals. He has also served as a member of the board of directors of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, a trustee of Marymount College, and member of the Port Chester Village Planning Commission.  In 2007-2008, Mr. Egan served on the NYC Traffic Congestion Mitigation Commission created by the Governor and the State Legislature to evaluate Mayor Bloomberg’s congestion pricing plan.

Mr. Egan received a B.A. from the College of the Holy Cross and a J.D. from Fordham University School of Law. He earned advanced credits in business and management from New York University's Stern School of Business.

Mr. Egan, a lifelong resident of New York, is married to the former Cathleen Joyce and has three children and two grandchildren.
