This document outlines mandated Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) standards for eligibility for the Tuition Assistance Program (TAP) and other state awards for students pursuing associate or baccalaureate degrees or certificate programs at the State University of New York (University).
A. Regulations of the New York State Commissioner of Education require that a University campus maintain a formal, published statement of its requirements for maintaining good academic standing for students seeking financial assistance. The standards should be published in the college catalogue. When state auditors review administration of the TAP program, they reference the State Education Department (SED)-approved SAP standards to determine if students are meeting the progress requirements and if audit exceptions exist.
B. Students in associate degree and certificate programs (see C. 1.) and baccalaureate degree programs (see C. 2.), who previously received TAP can maintain eligibility by meeting the previously approved University-wide standards (see also Regulations of the Commissioner of Education Subpart 145-2 Educational Requirements for Awards and Loans).
