SUNY Board of Trustees Announces Leadership at New York State College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University, Finger Lakes Community College

Albany – The State University of New York Board of Trustees today approved the appointment of Dr. Lorin D. Warnick as dean of the New York State College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University. In addition, the SUNY trustees and the Board of Trustees at Finger Lakes Community College announced the appointment of Dr. Robert K. Nye as president of FLCC.
About Dr. Lorin D. Warnick
Dr. Warnick has served as interim dean of the New York State College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell University. He is responsible for further developing the capacity of the College and moving associated programs forward in reputation, distinction, and influence.
Before becoming interim dean, Dr. Warnick was associate dean for veterinary education and associate dean for Veterinary Curriculum at Cornell. Since joining the Cornell faculty in 1996, he has overseen clinical service and teaching in the ambulatory and production medicine service, and conducted research on the epidemiology of salmonella infections and antimicrobial resistance of enteric bacteria in dairy cattle. Dr. Warnick’s research has been supported by federal grants, and he is extensively published in the field of veterinary epidemiology.
Dr. Warnick received his DVM degree from Colorado State University and his PhD in Veterinary Medicine from Cornell University. He is a diplomate in the American College of Veterinary Preventive Medicine.
Dr. Warnick’s appointment is effective May 4, 2016, at an annual state salary of $200,000.
About Dr. Robert K. Nye
Dr. Nye is currently the vice president for academic affairs at Thaddeus Stevens College of Technology. In 2009, Dr. Nye was selected as the deputy dean and in 2012 the deputy provost at the Army War College. His administrative responsibilities mirrored those at other institutions accredited by the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. He also taught courses in strategic thinking, strategic leadership, military resourcing and budgeting, and negotiations.
From July 1996 to April 2004, Dr. Nye served in the United States Army as an operations officer and battalion chief of staff, regimental operations officer and chief of staff, infantry battalion commander, brigade chief of staff, and chief of current operations, combined joint task force in Afghanistan. Thereafter, he served as chief strategist for the deputy commanding general, United States Forces in Iraq and as Deputy Dean and Deputy Provost at the United States Army War College. He retired from the military after 30 years of service as a colonel in 2013.
Dr. Nye commenced his career in higher education in 1992 when he joined the faculty of Cornell University as an assistant professor of military science. He holds master's degrees in public administration from Cornell University and strategic studies from the United States Army War College; and a PhD in public administration from the University of Kansas.
Dr. Nye’s appointment is effective July 1, 2016, at an annual state salary of $200,000.
