SUNY Board Announces New Presidents at Cayuga & Ulster County Community Colleges

New York City – The State University of New York Board of Trustees today approved the appointments of Brian M. Durant as president of Cayuga Community College and Dr. Alan Roberts as president of Ulster County Community College.

About Brian M. Durant
Brian M. Durant began his community college career as a counselor at Columbia-Greene Community College, and later worked as a career specialist at Sage College of Albany and as an instructor of counseling and assistant professor of Counseling at Adirondack Community College. While at SUNY Adirondack, Mr. Durant was promoted to the position of dean for Student Affairs and subsequently as vice president for Academic and Student Affairs. Mr. Durant received his B.A. in Political Science from SUNY Plattsburgh and his M.S. in Education Counseling from the College of Saint Rose. In addition, he is poised to receive his Doctor of Education with a concentration in Higher Education Administration from Northeastern University.

Mr. Durant’s appointment is effective August 17, 2015, at an annual salary of $170,000.

About Dr. Alan Roberts
Dr. Alan Roberts began his career in higher education in 1988 when he joined Indian River State College as an adjunct instructor. In 1991, he became a full professor as well as the chair of the Business and Accounting Department. Over the years, Dr. Roberts continued to assume increased responsibilities and duties at Indian River State College, serving as dean of Business and Industrial Technology, dean of Health Sciences, and finally as vice president of Applied Science and Technology, a position he has held since 2004. Dr. Roberts received dual associate degrees from North Country Community College, a bachelor’s degree in Business and Marketing from the University at Albany, a master’s degree in Distributive Education from the University at Albany, and a doctoral degree in Community College Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Central Florida.

Dr. Roberts’ appointment is effective July 27, 2015, at an annual salary of $175,000.
