Statement from SUNY Chancellor Nancy L. Zimpher on the Passing of Oneonta Mayor Dick Miller

Albany - “It is with immense sadness that we recognize upon his passing the many accomplishments of Richard Miller. Dick was a true servant to our state and a real champion of higher education. Whether he was focused on the needs of the people of Oneonta as their mayor, on the achievements of the students and faculty of Hartwick College as their president, or on the success of the citizens of New York as chief of staff at SUNY System Administration, Dick was always known to be intently focused on bringing people together.
“Dick was a steadfast believer in the value of a system of public colleges and universities. His hands-on approach was one of his greatest strengths, finding common ground and developing collaborations across government, academia, and the community. No doubt, his enduring legacy will be the loyalty and dedication to public service that was evident in all his endeavors. Our hearts across the State University go out to the Miller family, and to all those who had the opportunity to know him."
