Chancellor Zimpher to Visit UAlbany Students at Archaeological Site Field School

Albany – State University of New York Chancellor Nancy L. Zimpher and New York State Department of Education officials tomorrow will visit University at Albany students working at the Pethick Archaeological Site Field School in Schoharie County.

UAlbany and the Museum are hosting an annual open house of the active archeological dig site, where more than 300,000 artifacts have been uncovered in the past decade. The site is home to an eight-week archaeology field school, where undergraduate and graduate students preserve and catalog artifacts that ultimately become part of the Museum’s collections.

Chancellor Zimpher, State Board of Regents member James Dawson, State Museum Director Mark Schaming and State Archaeologist Christina Rieth will attend the open house. Their visit is OPEN PRESS and will be held as follows:

                     Smith Road (off of Route 7/30A)
                     Central Bridge, NY

Directions to the Pethick Archaeological Site:
Take NYS Thruway to Exit 25A and follow Interstate 88 to Exit 23 (Central Bridge). At end of ramp, turn right and proceed to flashing light. Turn left and follow the Schoharie Creek to Smith Road which will be on your left. Turn onto Smith Road and proceed to the end of the road with the site on your left. Please park on the shoulder of the road so as to not block traffic and driveways. From the roadway, please follow the foot bridge over the creek to the site.
