Statement from Chancellor Nancy L. Zimpher on Governor Cuomo's State of the State Address

“Governor Cuomo has presented an ambitious agenda for the future of New York State, and once again the State University of New York is at the forefront of his effort.
“To meet the demands of a 21st century global economy, we must educate more students to remain competitive and meet the demands of the state’s workforce. That's why SUNY is expanding access to college and career opportunities through innovative programs such as Open SUNY and providing real-life career training by partnering with companies to provide cooperative education experiences for our students.
“I applaud Governor Cuomo for expanding his highly effective NYSUNY 2020 program to refocus the program through performance-based funding that will increase online learning and co-op /paid internships as a way to expand access and affordability, providing a strong pathway to a career for more New Yorkers.
“We also know that we need to focus on educating our students in highly sought after fields, and are excited by the Governor's vision to provide full scholarships to top-performing high school students who want to enter the STEM fields.
“The Governor's vision at the year's State of the State address will help to expand access to college, completion of programs and success in the job market. That's the winning equation to help students succeed in life, and we stand ready to work with the Governor to make his ambitious education agenda a success.”
