Statement from Chancellor Nancy L. Zimpher on Governor Cuomo's Executive Budget Proposal
January 21, 2014
“Governor Cuomo's Executive Budget proposal represents a thoughtful stewardship of state funds for initiatives and reforms that address the diverse needs of nearly all New Yorkers.
“For SUNY, his proposal answers the critical maintenance needs of our infrastructure across the state, and provides the additional resources our 64-campus system will need to answer to new challenges in education, teacher preparation, research, emergency preparedness, and job training.
“With a new round of NYSUNY 2020 that includes performance-based incentives, among other measures, our colleges and universities across the state will have an opportunity to expand co-operative education and online learning, two of SUNY's most effective initiatives in terms of increasing access, completion, and success among students.
“SUNY represents the interests of more than half a million New Yorkers – 463,000 students, 90,000 employees, and 35,000 faculty – each of whom stand to benefit from the Governor's proposal, and we look forward to working with our partners in the Legislature as they finalize the budget.”
