SUNY opens online site to accept donations to further its efforts to support more victims in NYS

Farmingdale, NY – State University of New York announced the success of SUNY’s Got Your Back event at The Barclays yesterday, resulting in the assembly of thousands of comfort bags to be delivered to local shelters for victims of sexual assault and interpersonal violence. In addition, following a generous $10,000 donation by the PGA TOUR, PGA TOUR Wives Association, and The Barclays, SUNY launched an online site at www.suny.edu/gotyourback to allow for personal contributions.

Donations collected will be used to further SUNY’s efforts to support more victims across New York State, primarily through providing local shelters with comfort bags containing items such as toiletries and resource pages.

SUNY’s Got Your Back campaign is a grassroots effort led by the SUNY Title IX Coordinators Association, in partnership with the New York State Coalition Against Sexual Assault, the New York State Coalition Against Domestic Violence, and the New York State Police. The campaign will continue as more SUNY campuses work to provide comfort bags to shelters in local communities. To date, students, faculty, and staff at 50 campuses are participating in the campaign, with nearly 9,000 bags being delivered to shelters across the state.

In addition to the PGA TOUR, PGA TOUR Wives Association, and The Barclays, the “SUNY’s Got Your Back Program” has been supported by the New York State Police, JM Murray of Cortland, the Specialty Advertising Association of Greater New York (SAAGNY), the New York State Office for the Prevention of Domestic Violence, Staples, CVS Health, Field Notes, and Notes Inc., a division of Dupli Envelopes and Graphics.

About SUNY’S Got Your Back

Every day, men, women, and children seek assistance from rape crisis and domestic violence shelters across New York State, often with little more than the clothes they are wearing. Through a statewide partnership between SUNY, the New York State Police, and several state agencies, “SUNY’s Got Your Back” provides ongoing support for these individuals while also ensuring that more of the money shelters and other response organizations have can be spent on critical support and services.
