London Theatre Seminar, London

Students get to know the historical, cultural, and creative traditions of British theater as they attend and then discuss six plays. This two-week seminar provides access to the best available performances at both the Royal National Theatre and the Royal Shakespeare Company, as well as other interesting works in the West End, Fringe, and experimental theaters. In the past, excursions outside the city went to Oxford, Stratford-upon-Avon (Shakespeare's birthplace), or Bath.

London Art Seminar

The program is a two week seminar in London in early January, covering the historic traditions and contemporary trends inherent in British Art. Through a series of visits to London's major museums, art galleries, alternative spaces and other cultural institutions, students will gain a deeper insight into the distinctive nature of British Art and Culture. Studio visits, interviews with artists and administrators, and field lectures are also planned to offer an inside perspective on what it means to practice art in London. Seminar participants will meet regularly in the program residence to discuss and critically evaluate the art scene. Excursions outside of the city and attendance of plays and other events with the London Theatre Seminar may be planned as well.

Kingston University has been rated very highly for teaching quality and is number one overall among "new" universities. Kingston on Thames is a vibrant town with its own distinct identity. Only 20 minutes by train from central London, it offers students the perfect location. Students enroll in a British Life and Culture course, plus courses from the University's six Faculties: Business, Law and Education; Design and Music; Health and Social Care Services; Liberal Arts (Humanities); Science; and Technology. Summer Studies at Kingston University, London: The town of Kingston-upon-Thames, a short railway ride away from the center of London, is a mixture of old and new with a daily open-air fruit, vegetable, and fish market as well as major chain stores, supermarkets, a shopping mall, night clubs, and multi-screen cinemas. The main campus is situated near two railway stations, 17 minutes away from the center of London, and a 12 minute walk from a boat service to Hampton Court Palace. The nearness of London, together with the proximity of Richmond Park, Chessington Zoo and theme park, Kew Gardens, and Windsor make Kingston-upon-Thames an ideal place for study. The summer program at Kingston uses its London location to its best advantage. Courses offered focus on their subject matter as it applies to London and the United Kingdom.
