Izmir, historically Smyrna, is the third most populous city of Turkey and the country's largest port after Istanbul. It is located in the Gulf of Izmir, by the Aegean Sea. Izmir is widely regarded as one of the most progressive Turkish cities in terms of values, ideology, lifestyle, dynamism and gender roles. The vision of the Izmir University of Economics is to establish itself as a respected institution of higher education providing its students with world-class educational opportunities and research facilities while encouraging them to excel at both national and international levels and to attain formidable leadership qualities. IUE, the first foundation university in Izmir and the Aegean region offers undergraduate degrees in Computer Science, Mathematics, Psychology, Art, Fashion Design, Interior Architecture and Environmental Design, Architecture, Economics, Business Administration, Logistics Management, International Relations and the European Union and International Trade and Finance, Public Relations Communications; English Translation and Interpreting Languages Studies. Language instruction is available to students who want to learn Turkish.

IUE - SUNY Cobleskill Exchange Program

This semester-long exchange program is designed for SUNY Cobleskill students in liberal arts, business and culinary arts. Students enroll directly in the university and study side-by-side with Turkish and other international students. Courses are delivered in English.

Bosphorus University

Binghamton University's exchange program with Bosphorus University in Istanbul, Turkey offers an opportunity to explore a fascinating and important world region. Istanbul, the commercial and cultural center of Turkey, is a monumental city built on hills overlooking the Bosphorus and Golden Horn waterways. It is the only city in the world that spans two continents - Europe and Asia. Its architecture reflects its imperial past, with city walls built by the Roman Emperor Theodosius, former Christian churches adorned with Byzantine mosaics, and the enormous mosques and elaborate palaces of the Ottoman sultans. Turkish culture has a highly developed ethos of hospitality, and students will encounter a welcoming and helpful environment. Bosphorus University is an English-language university. Students enroll in regular university courses, taught in English, and live on campus in modern, luxurious dorms with Turkish and other International students. Courses include anthropology, art history, history, international relations and political science, education, psychology, sociology, Middle East studies, business, economics, biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, electrical, mechanical and computer engineering; Turkish language and literature and Western languages and literatures. Summer Program: This seven-week program at Bosphorus University offers a magnificent campus in one of the world's most beautiful and fascinating historical cities. Students live on campus in beautiful, modern dorms with Turkish and other International students. All courses are taught in English, and include anthropology, art history, history, international relations and political science, education, psychology, sociology, Middle East studies, business, economics, biology, chemistry, physics, mathematics, electrical, mechanical and computer engineering, Turkish language and literature and Western languages and literatures. Summer Term runs from late June to early August. This program is available to SUNY students only.

International Business Study Tour

Locations:  Costa Rica (San Jose), Turkey (Eskisehir and Istanbul), Various

This unique course offers students the opportunity to study international business, travel, and collaborate in an authentic cross-cultural learning experience. Through exposure to the real world of business, students will move from the theoretical world of the classroom to face­-to-face encounters with executives in their company and corporate settings. By engaging in meaningful intercultural exchange and the using technologies to accomplish goals, students will develop key markers of today's most effective and successful global citizens. The course will take place in Costa Rica, and will be adapted with parallel structure and content to other country locations, particularly those characterized as emerging markets.

This field experience will include the following activities:

• Site visits to businesses, lectures, and related activities
• Students will keep a daily Travel Journal to record ideas and reactions to their learning experiences
• Visits to significant sites of cultural and historical import.
