Packaging Design: Global Perspectives

This packaging design program in Europe is designed to be a transformative study abroad course the blends academic coursework with firsthand exploration of packaging design in retail settings in Europe. Experiential and investigative learning along with cultural immersion will take place through tours, lectures and presentations in design organizations/consumer product corporations, retail venues, and academic institutions (where possible). With the focus on an advanced understanding of professional practices and processes in the European businesses of design, branding and marketing of consumer products, students will immerse themselves in an array of academic research topics in order to formulate a thesis and develop oral, written and visual design presentation.

SUNY Oneonta’s exchange program at the University of Lincoln is located in Lincoln, a city in England with a population of about 100,000 people. Lincoln is located in the East Midlands region of England, approximately 2 hours north of London by train. Lincoln is a charming city with an interesting medieval history; its most famous landmark is a 900-year-old cathedral on a hill overlooking the city. The University of Lincoln is located on the waterfront along a canal, and several restaurants and shops are within walking distance. The University has a vibrant student life, and offers on-campus housing to exchange students. Students enroll directly into regular university classes with British students in the School of History and Heritage, School of English and Journalism, and School of Social and Political Sciences.

In 1858, the English art critic, artist and social thinker, John Ruskin, opened a School fo Art in Cambridge, England.  The art school grew to become Anglia Ruskin University, a modern institution with university status conferred by Her Majesty's Government.  The Cambridge School of Art still forms an important part of Anglia Ruskin.  The University now has another major campus in the city of Chelmsford, just 35 minutes from London and in Peterborough, a city in the rual east of England.

Anglia Ruskin has grown to become a modern, respected institution, educating around 31,500 students from over 120 countries on our campuses and overseas, and is one of the largest universities in eastern England, delivering courses that provide relevant work-based skills. 

The University boasts three campuses:  Cambridge, Chelmsford and Peterborough.  Study Abroad courses are offered in Cambridge or Chelmsford, both widely considered to be among the best places to live in the UK.  Both are safe, easy to get around and with a good standard of living.  Cambridge is world-famous as a seat of learning and culture.  Chelmsford is the county town of Essex and is a cathedral city famous as the birthplace of radio.  Both cities are within an hour of London, so you can enjoy all the UK's capital city has to offer-- without the high cost of inner city living.

From the start you'll be immersing yourself in student life, both academic and social.  As a student at Anglia Ruskin, you will benefit from all the facilities available.  You'll automatically become a member of the Sutdents' Union, an independent body which looks after your interestes and organizes clubs, societies, outings and events for students.  Also, Anglia Ruskin thinks that you will like it so much, they will guarantee to offer you a place for a Master's degree if you meet the minimum requirements!
