University of St. Andrews Program

Offered by SUNY Brockport

United Kingdom

Locations:  United Kingdom (St. Andrews)

The University of St. Andrews, founded in 1413, is the oldest university in Scotland and the third oldest in the English-speaking world. It is ranked third best university in the UK, according to the Guardian Guide 2016; and is internationally renowned as one of the most prestigious in the world. Over the past six centuries, St. Andrews has upheld a Scottish tradition of academic merit, attracting international scholars and students from around the world. St. Andrews is not a campus university; rather, it is closely integrated with the town, and both the academic buildings and student housing are interspersed among shops, pubs, and residential houses. Within this medieval setting, the University offers the latest in teaching and research. Students can study by the sea, selecting from a variety of courses, including film studies, history, psychology, and theology. Since the Scottish and North American systems of education share many attributes besides a common language, students adjust to list at St. Andrews with little difficulty. Located about 45 miles to the north of Edinburgh, St. Andrews is best known as the birthplace of golf. The seaside town is distinguished by two institutions, the Royal Ancient Golf Club and the University of St. Andrews. Today, the town is a living museum of ancient castles and cathedral walls, centuries-old stone houses, and golf's most famous course.v
