Edinburgh, the capitol of Scotland, with a population of 500,000, is one of Europe's most exciting and cosmopolitan cities. Built on a series of extinct volcanoes, it looks out over the North Sea and the Firth of Forth. The famous avenue, the Royal Mile, extends from the ancient castle on the hill to the Palace of Holyroodhouse. The narrow cobbled streets of the Old Town lie to one side of the Royal Mile, while the broad and gracious avenues of the New Town lie to the other. The University of Edinburgh, founded in 1582, is one of the most prestigious universities in the UK, with an international reputation. Students live in university housing with British and other International students. Fields of study include American studies, archeology, social anthropology, business studies, English literature, linguistics, history, political science, European history and politics, Scottish and Celtic studies, philosophy, psychology, social policy, physical sciences and engineering.

University of Stirling

The University of Stirling is home to the William Wallace national monument and picturesque Stirling castle. Stirling's location and comfortable manner have encouraged many recent participants to extend their length of study abroad beyond what they had originally planned. Participants enroll directly into University of Stirling classes. Prior to departure, students select three courses from the courses available to study abroad students. All instruction is by University of Stirling faculty. Fields of study include architecture, business, computer science, economics, education, fine, visual and performing arts, interior design, history, humanities, information technology, languages, literature, math, and practical classroom experience. Housing is in university-owned accommodations. Typically, the Fall semester runs from September-December and Spring from February-May. Summer Program: Located just 2 miles from the city of Stirling and within an hour of both Edinburgh and Glasgow, this program provides a unique opportunity to sample student life at the University of Stirling while gaining credits towards your degree programs at your home institution. The University of Stirling is running a new International Summer School, open to international students from around the world. The program is run under the direction of full professors at Stirling and will be almost wholly taught by the University's academic staff who are experts in their respective fields. There are two sessions. Students can earn 6 credits for one session (either one) and 12 for participating in both.
