Journalism Without Walls

“Journalism Without Walls,” offered through Stony Brook University’s School of Journalism, provides students an opportunity to learn their craft outside the classroom. The goal is to provide student journalists with a broader and deeper understanding of the world. Previous projects have included: A week-long exploration of Havana; a month-long exploration of St. Petersburg and Northern Russia and a three week long journey along China’s legendary Silk Road.  Most recently, our Journalism students spent time in Istanbul, Turkey and will be headed to Bangalore, India during Summer 2015.  Students’ work will be professionally published on the Journalism School's web site.

The University at Albany's afiliation with Bahcesehir University enables students to take Turkish language courses as well as taking English taugh courses in a wide selection of academic fields. Internships (3-credits) and community sercives (no credit) can also be arranged

Koç University Exchange

Founded in 1993 as a non-profit private university, Koç University has quickly become one of the leading universities in Turkey. All instruction at the University is in English. Students enroll in regular classes and live in the residence halls alongside Turkish and other international students. Students can choose to participate in a wide selection of clubs and societies and other social, cultural and sports activities. Koç has a fully staffed Health Clinic that provides for emergency needs. The University is on a beautiful 62-acre campus in the hills of Sariyer, a district of Istanbul on the edge of the Bosphorus and just 20 minutes from the Black Sea beaches. The campus is surrounded by charming villages and beautiful natural landscapes and connected to the city centre by a plethora of convenient transportation options. Public transportation to downtown Istanbul is easy by bus and takes about 15-30 minutes. Founded in 1984, Bilkent University is the first private, non-profit university in Turkey. The University is about 10 miles outside the city center of Ankara, the capital city of Turkey, on a 1200-acre campus. All instruction at the University is in English. Students enroll in regular classes and live in the residence halls alongside Turkish and other international students. They are welcome to participate in all University activities. Students may attend for a semester or an academic year. Binghamton University and non-SUNY students meeting the minimum requirements are welcome to apply.
