Arabic Language and Culture at Al Akhawayn University

Designed to immerse students in Moroccan culture, this four or eight-week program hosted by Al Akhawayn University in Ifrane offers Arabic language (beginning through advanced) and North African studies. Moroccan dialect is also offered. A Moroccan culture course includes weekend excursions to Fez, Casablanca, Rabat, Marrakesh, and other historical locations. Students live on campus with Moroccan students.

Eligibility: 3.0 grade point average. Open to all levels of college students and graduate students.

Al Akhawayn University of Ifrane

Locations:  Morocco (Ifrane)

Ifrane is a university town in the Middle Atlas region of Morocco, one hour south of Fez. It is ideally situated for travel throughout Morocco, including Casablanca and Marrakesh. Arabic language is taught at beginning through advanced levels; French language courses are also available. All other regular university courses are taught in English. Participants may select from courses in the humanities and social sciences in the following fields: economics, geography, history, humanities, political science and sociology. Many of the core courses are related to Morocco, the Mediterranean, North Africa, and the greater Arab and Islamic world. Students live in residence halls with Moroccan students.

Netherlands: International Perspectives on Sexuality and Gender (SIT)

Locations:  Morocco (Rabat), Netherlands (Amsterdam)

Participants on this program will acquire an intersectional understanding of the complexities and paradoxes surrounding issues of gender and sexuality in the Netherlands (a trip to Morocco is included). The program is highly experiential, including a Dutch language course and homestay.
