EspĂ­ritu Santo University

The Universidad Espiritu Santo is located in Guayaquil, Ecuador. Located on the Guayas River, this urban area is Ecuador's largest city, with a population of approximately 2,500,000 inhabitants. The Universidad Espiritu Santo is the youngest and fastest growing Ecuadorian university. Students in the Espiritu Santo International Studies Program study intensive Spanish, history and geography of Latin America, literature of Latin America, and social and economic problems of development. Other fields of study include anthropology, business, culture, ecology, economics, education, ESL, geography, language, law, linguistics, political science, practical classroom experience, and sociology. Students may travel to Quito and the highlands, Cuenca, the Amazon and to various places around Guayaquil and in the costal region in connection with their studies. Students participate in social service projects and internships of their interest. Students live in homestays arranged by UEES. Summer Latin American Studies in Ecuador: This program offers a one-of-a-kind opportunity to study three cultures in one term at the Universidad Espiritu Santo in Guayaquil, the financial center of Ecuador. By experiencing the rich lives and diverse cultural expressions of this multilingual and multiethnic Andean region, students understand the three major African, indigenous, and European cultures that have shaped the character of the region. Students study intensive Spanish language; may also choose from Community Health in a Developing Nation, The Ecology of Coastal Ecuador or complete an internship. Conferences, lectures, and travel to locales such as Quito, Cuenca, and the Amazon will round out this stimulating, comprehensive foray into Latin American culture. The university's Internship Program gives participants invaluable experience working in a local business or institution, allowing them to practice their professional skills in an environment conducive to intercultural exchange.
