The program is designed to provide an opportunity for students majoring in a variety of fields to study the Chinese language and explore Chinese history, literature and culture on site. Capital Normal University is one of the key institues of the Beijing municipality. Its eleven departments offer a wide range of courses. The college also has special Institues of Educational Science, British History, Economic History of Chinese Ancient Society as well as an affiliated campus school. Most students take intensive Chinese language and cultural courses. Traditional Chinese painting and instrumental music are also available.

Asian American Studies Abroad

This program, offered through SBU's Department of Asian and Asian-American Studies, travels to various locations throughout China.  During Summer 2015, this program will take place in Shanghai.  As a global city, and the largest in China, Shanghai influences commerce, finance, trade, culture, fashion, research and entertainment not only in China but the world. Shanghai recently successfully hosted the World Expo 2010.  Beautiful and modern, it has the reputation as “Paris of the East” and as been described as the "showpiece" of the world's fastest-growing major economy.
