Support those in recovery with this CASAC Training 1 - Foundation microcredential. The first in a two-microcredential series, this foundational microcredential provides you with the essential knowledge and skills needed to excel in the helping professions. Grounded in the latest research and on-the-ground best practices, you will understand the physical and emotional impact of addiction, the value that counseling brings, and the essential components of counseling including the counselor-client relationship, assessment, record keeping, service referral, and treatment plans. You will participate in a service learning experience to gain experience in client, family and community relations. You will also understand the importance of self-care in this field, with a focus on counselor wellness and prevention of compassion fatigue. Note: This microcredential is intended for those who hold at least an associate degree in an approved field as approved by OASAS (related to human services). Successful completion of this microcredential prepares you for continued study and to immediately apply for entry level administrative or staff support positions. Completion of the two-microcredential series prepares you to apply to the New York State Office of Addiction Services and Supports (OASAS) for the CASAC-T certification, pass the International Certification and Reciprocity Consortium (IC&RC) examination for Alcohol and Drug Counselors, and to apply for positions as an Addiction Counselor.
Credits earned in the completion of this microcredential can be applied toward completion of a related certificate or degree program. It is a building block that gives you a jump start to education and career success.
