This title is in the unclassified service and is designated Managerial/Confidential. Appointees to Managerial/Confidential titles serve at the pleasure of the chief administrative officer and are not represented for collective negotiations.
Positions in this series are related to the functioning of the campus teaching school which is run as an experimental teaching program in conjunction with a school of education at four-year campus or university center. The grade levels of a given school will depend upon the major emphasis of the education department of the sponsoring campus -- either elementary or secondary level.
PRINCIPAL serves as the chief administrative officer of a campus school. Provides academic and administrative leadership to faculty, staff, student body; works closely with the educational department(s) to develop innovative teaching methods to improve the teaching process; is also responsible for providing guidance and effecting liaison between the practice faculty (teachers in training) and their individual faculty advisors in developing their professional skills and in evaluating their progress as teachers.
Incumbents in the position of Principal should meet all of the qualifications for the academic rank of Associate Professor or Professor and typically hold academic rank in and educational department of the sponsoring campus.
