Positions in this series are concerned with the administration of a specialized research center. A research center usually provides for study, instruction, and public service in a particular area of academic endeavor, often cutting across disciplinary lines. It should be noted that a research center may be university-wide in scope, providing inter-campus leadership in an area of scholarly concern, or may be confined to a single campus servicing the needs of a particular academic program or department.
Many titles in this series are followed by a descriptive phrase that serves to identify the particular center, institute, bureau, or program.
This title is distinguished from Director 08 that is in the SUNY professional services negotiating unit because it has significant responsibilities for making policies or in the administration of collective negotiating agreements.
