ELECTRONIC RESOURCES AND ONLINE INSTRUCTION LIBRARIAN

 

This professional classification and description, Electronic Resources and Online Instruction Librarian is a newly created position.

 

Title:                                        Electronic Resources and Online Instruction Librarian

Charles J. Meder Library

 

Reports to:                              Library Director

 

Type of Appointment:                        Full Time, 12 month

 

 

 

1.   Qualifications:

 

A.    Educational Background:  Masters Degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited program required.

 

B.     Experience:  At least 2 years’ experience working in a library, preferably at an institution of higher education; demonstrated experience incorporating instructional technologies into the teaching and learning process, and willingness to engage in the design and development of new instructional initiatives; knowledge of current issues and trends in instructional pedagogy; experience with the evaluation of educational programs and learning outcomes; strong commitment to public service, information literacy, and outreach; experience working with course management systems (such as Blackboard); experience with remote authentication software (such as EZ Proxy), and e-resource management software, open URL and web scale discovery tools; demonstrated technical support skills; experience in reference, library instruction, and collection development. Successful candidate must be highly productive, innovative, and familiar with e-resource management and educational technology in order to advance the development and support of online resources and library instruction initiatives at FLCC. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills and the ability to work effectively with students, faculty, community residents, librarians, and support staff are essential.

 

 

2.   General Functions:

 

The Electronic Resources and Online Instruction Librarian will be responsible for the management and assessment of licensed electronic resources in all formats; overall coordination, development, delivery and assessment of online library instruction and support;  development of online and electronic learning tools and objects; and using emerging instructional technologies effectively to enhance library instruction at the Charles J. Meder Library.

 

 

3.   Specific Responsibilities:

A.    Online Delivery & Instruction: 

1.      Plan and coordinate all library online instruction, including the development and integration of information competency elements to ensure that the online library instruction program is consistent with the goals of the Library's information literacy program.

2.      Collaborate with library and academic faculty to develop appropriate methods of delivering online research assistance and learning activities.

3.      Serve as a resource for other library staff regarding library instruction and online pedagogy.

4.      Participate in short and long-term planning, and implementation of new library instructional technologies.

5.      Serve on management team for library systems development.

B.     Learning Management System (Blackboard):

1.      Collaborate with library staff, college faculty and the department of online learning to ensure a successful online library program; report problems and recommend solutions to library director.

2.      Develop LMS specific online and electronic learning tools and objects.

3.      Analyze data from and present graphical and written reports, as needed.

C.     E-Resources and Databases:

1.      Coordinate and provide leadership for the selection and acquisition of electronic resources (including identifying and selecting resources and establishing and evaluating trials).

2.      Manage the lifecycle of electronic resources, ensuring data accuracy and minimal interruption of services.

3.      Apply knowledge of current issues and trends in electronic resource licensing, acquisitions, and resource discovery to improve workflow and resource discovery.

4.      Provide outreach and marketing to promote the electronic collections.

5.      Foster strong professional relationships and communications with colleagues, vendors, publishers and consortia.

6.      Analyze usage data to assess the electronic collections.

D.    Department Liaison:

1.      Act as library liaison to assigned departments by consulting with faculty members to provide bibliographic instruction and other services that support their curriculum.

 

2.      Work with faculty and the library director to evaluate and develop library collections in assigned fields.

3.      Work with faculty to coordinate library instruction with course content

4.      Provide search assistance for complex research topics.

5.      Assume budgetary responsibilities and monitor assigned funds for purchase of monographs in liaison areas.

E.     Reference:

1.      Regular reference desk duty is required.

F.      Other:

1.      Function as part of a library team that works with faculty, library staff, and library patrons to ensure library services, programs, and other related issues meet academic and community needs.

2.      Participate in the work of the college community.

3.      Keep abreast of current library trends and emerging technologies through professional activities.

4.      Participate in the marketing, development, implementation, assessment and provision of programs and services to ensure greater awareness of the Library and its services to library patrons and stakeholders.

5.      Supervise clerical or work study students when needed.

6.      Provide occasional assistance at the circulation desk

7.      Teach information literacy/library instruction classes.

8.      As needed, represents the library on various college committees.

9.      Develop research guides and online tools that assist faculty and students in using the libraries and information sources.

10.  Assume other responsibilities at the request of the library director to ensure quality library services.
