NY AG Lawsuit Protecting International Students

Colleges Support Attorney General James’ Lawsuit To Protect International Students

New York Attorney General Letitia James recently filed a lawsuit against the Trump Administration for suddenly reversing a policy that threatens to deport more than a million international students at colleges and universities across the nation or risk the spread of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) by forcing them to take in-person classes this fall. Numerous colleges, universities, educational organizations, students, elected officials, and unions publicly stated their support for the lawsuit and against the reversal of policy.

The State University of New York is one of many showing support for the actions of AG James. A motion for a preliminary injunction (an order pausing the effectiveness of the rule) was filed. That motion includes Provost Laursen’s Declaration, as well as a Declaration from CUNY and from a University of Buffalo student.
