2018-19 Faculty Diversity Program Awards (FDP)
The three newly appointed assistant professors who will be joining the SUNY community in 2018 are:
- Hyun-Kyoung Kwon, Assistant Professor, Department of Mathematics and Statistics, University at Albany (Ph.D. in Mathematics in 2008 from Brown University)
- Francisco Vieyra, Assistant Professor, Department of Sociology, University at Albany (Ph.D. in Sociology in 2016 from New York University)
- Vittorio Merola Marotta, Assistant Professor, Department of Political Science, Stony Brook University (Ph.D. in Political Science in 2016 from Ohio State University).
2018-2019 Explorations in Diversity & Academic Excellence Awards (EDAE)
The Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion received 27 applications from 25 campuses in the 10th cycle of the annual Explorations in Diversity and Academic Excellence Initiative. Total funding was $80,000. The fourteen projects selected to receive funding are:
- Buffalo State College – Accessibility: Designing Access for All Learners
- Corning Community College – There’s a Place for You at Corning Community College
- Empire State College – The Buffalo Project: An Ethnographic Student-Based Study of Greater Buffalo, NY
- SUNY ESF – ESF Faculty Retreat for Transformative Teaching and Learning
- Farmingdale State College – Increasing Access to Summer Research and Project-Based Learning Outcomes for the Research Aligned Mentorship (RAM) Program Scholars
- Finger Lakes Community College – Academic Curriculum Reform and Cultural Initiatives
- Genesee Community College – Student Diversity Initiative GCC
- Morrisville State College – Creating an Equitable and Just Campus for Historically Underrepresented Individuals
- North Country Community College – Developing Cultural Competence Across Disciplines and Departments
- Onondaga Community College – African American and Latino Peer Support (ALPS) Program
- Rockland Community College – Perspectives on Diversity
- Stony Brook University – Advancing Graduate Diversity Fellowship Recipients onto SUNY Careers
- Suffolk County Community College – Sustained LGBTQ+ Project
- Upstate Medical University – Dear World Live from SUNY Upstate
2018-2019 Doctoral Diversity Fellowships in STEM Awards (DDF-STEM)
- Danea Glover, who will pursue her doctoral degree in Biomedical Sciences at Upstate Medical University. She received her Bachelor of Science in Biotechnology in 2017 from Syracuse University.
- Lars Paulson, who will pursue his doctoral degree in Chemistry at the University at Buffalo. He received his Bachelor of Science in Chemistry in 2015 from Oregon State University.
2017-18 Diversity Abroad Honors Scholarship Program Awards (DAHSP)
Under this initiative, there were 26 undergraduate students from 17 SUNY campuses who received scholarships under this diversity initiative.
ODEI has created this program to help offset the costs of participating in an approved international program of study or research. Scholarships of $1,000 will be awarded on a competitive basis, and these stipends must include a source of matching funds from the campus equal to or greater than the award.
