April 2015: National Financial Literacy Month

April 2015: Financial Literacy Month

National Employee Benefits Day is Thursday, April 2nd!

National Employee Benefits Day (NEBD) is a day to celebrate the dedication of those involved in the design and administration of employee benefits, so here is a THANK YOU to our SUNY Benefits administrators! The NEBD 2015 theme is overall wellness, so it's a great time to revisit the work-life balance offerings of NYS Work-Life Services, which include the Employee Assistance Program (EAP), NYS-Balance (login "nys" and "balance"), Worksite Child Care Centers, Flex Spending Accounts, NYS-Ride, Pre-Retirement Planning, and WellNYS Everyday.

National Financial Literacy Month was born in 2004 as an effort to encourage Americans to learn more about financial principles and practices. In the spirit of the month this year, Money Management International (MMI) has developed a hub of webinars and worksheets to help guide people to financial wellness, and several ways to connect with others about how to manage personal finances. This year, MMI also offers a 30-day path to financial wellness, which includes guidance on self-evaluation, making and sticking to a plan, and how small changes can make a big impact.

The SUNY Benefits web site always features resources for financial wellness, such as the pages focusing on Financial Planning & Tools and SUNY Smart Track, but in special recognition of Financial Literacy Month for 2015, SUNY is hosting an interactive Financial Challenge (FIQ) for all SUNY employees, by which five eligible employees will each win a 16GB iPad mini! The FIQ Challenge is a daily five-question quiz available throughout the month of April, during which employees may elect to take the challenge each day. Taking the challenge each day results in an entry for a chance to win one of the iPad minis. Winners will be selected in early May.
