April is National Financial Literacy Month

National Employee Benefits Day (NEBD) for 2014 is Wednesday, April 2nd!

April is National Financial Literacy month, which is recognized in an effort to encourage Americans to learn more about financial principles and practices.  In support of this month's theme, FinancialLiteracyMonth.com features worksheets, ebooks, and quizzes to engage people with their personal financial situation, and tips on how to manage and save money.  Additionally, MyMoney.Gov offers money-saving information, resources, tools, and activities for people in various stages of life.

April 2, 2014 marks this year's National Employee Benefits Day (NEBD) as established by the International Foundation of Employee Benefit Plans (IFEBP).  NEBD is a day to acknowledge those involved in the development and delivery of employee benefits, and focus on the event's annual theme to improve theme-related benefit programs and the communication of these programs to employees.  The theme for 2014 aims at financial wellness and strategic efforts, to ensure that retirement savings will meet the demands of plans for retirement.  To assist in focusing on this theme, IFEBP's website offers glossaries of Retirement Plan Terms You Should Know, Investment Terms You Should Know, and Credit Terms You Should Know, and planning tools for those who will retire within 15 years, as well as savings and budget guidance for those who will retire in more than 15 years

The SUNY Benefits web page also offers a variety of financial education & planning tools here.

This month is a particularly appropriate time to recognize the importance of planning for tomorrow, so please take this time to reflect on your own planning, and what you can do to ensure that you are saving enough for your future!
