Vice Chancellor of Press and Communications

Leo Rosales serves as the Vice Chancellor for Communications for the State University of New York. Mr. Rosales joined SUNY on February 2019 as Associate Vice Chancellor for Communications and was recently promoted to Vice Chancellor for Communications by the SUNY Board of Trustees in June 2020.

As Vice Chancellor for Communications, Mr. Rosales oversees press operations, the graphics and design department, all internal and external communications from SUNY and advises its current leadership team and the SUNY Board of Trustees on all communication matters. He also provides guidance on press strategy, risk and crisis communications and announcements to leadership, communication directors and public information officers at SUNY’s 64 campuses.

Prior to joining SUNY, Mr. Rosales served as the Deputy Director of Communications for Governor Andrew M. Cuomo. In that position he was charged with managing and messaging the Governor’s daily press release announcements. Mr. Rosales also was responsible for overseeing and advising leadership and communication directors at several state agencies on energy, environment, labor, social services and higher education covering a wide range of issues.

Prior to his service with the Governor, and throughout his over 20 year career, Mr. Rosales served in various high level communication advisory roles and positions with New York State Labor Department, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency in their Chicago and New York field offices, and with several members of the New York State Legislature.

Mr. Rosales received his B.A. in Political Science from the State University of New York at Albany in 1995.
