Teacher Education Program Transfer Information for SUNY Cortland

Overall GPA Entrance Requirement

GPA minimum of 2.5 overall for AA/AS degree

Requirements for Major/Concentration

At least one-half the major must be taken at SUNY Cortland, and at least three courses of any minor or concentration must be taken at SUNY Cortland. You are encouraged to take coursework related to your specific major while at the community college.

Majors/Concentrations for Students in Teacher Preparation Programs

Adolescence Education

Mathematics

Complete at least 12 credit hours of calculus and 6 hrs. of additional mathematics at the calculus level.

Childhood/Early Childhood

Transfer students who have completed a minimum of 30 hrs. with a minimum GPA of 2.5 may be conditionally admitted to the major. Transfers not meeting these requirements may apply after completing a total of 30 hrs., 15 of which must be completed at Cortland with a cumulative GPA of 2.5

Concentrations must be directly related to the childhood/early childhood curriculum. English/Language Arts, Humanities, Social Sciences, Biology, Mathematics, French, Spanish, Earth Science, Environmental Sciences.

Speech/Language Disabilities

Transfer students must have a 2.7 GPA. Transfer students below junior status may apply for admission to this major after completing 12 hrs. at Cortland with a minimum 2.7 GPA.

Specific Curriculum Comments

For Physical Education, it is suggested that you complete two courses of anatomy and physiology at your 2-year college (see SUNY Cortland Admissions webpage for transfer course equivalency).
